Autism Info and Resources
Autism is a condition that currently affects 1 in every 150 American children. There are more than 1.5 million Americans living with the effects of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
It's a complex condition, hence the use of the jigsaw puzzle as it's symbol. It's usually identified within the first three years of life, although some people go much longer without proper diagnosis. It is defined by a certain set of behaviors, which appear in different individuals in varying degrees, and which affect a person's ability communicate and interact with others. Autism impacts development in the areas of social interaction and communication skills and children and adults with autism typically show difficulties in verbal and non-verbal communication, social interactions, and leisure or play activities.
The exact causes are unknown, but research is making strides to identify succeptibility and possible causes, as well as treatments that can significantly improve the lives of people living with Autism.
